Elder Law Associates PA is proud to be a sponsor of the Miracle League of Palm Beach County – a baseball league that gives young people with special needs and disabilities the opportunity to play baseball regardless of their abilities. The Miracle League’s mantra and mission is that “every child deserves to play baseball.”
The Miracle League kicked off its Fall 2020 season on Oct. 10, 2020, with opening ceremonies followed by baseball games on their newly refurbished all-accessible field at Miller Park in Delray Beach, Fla. Because many of the players and their families were making the trek down to Delray Beach from northern Palm Beach and Martin counties, the Miracle League of Palm Beach County also started serving these families with a new accessible field and games for players of all abilities in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
The cushioned turf field, nicknamed the “Field of Dreams,” helps prevent injuries, and the completely flat surface allows players who are wheelchair bound or visually impaired the chance to play without any barriers. The Spring 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19 but the fall season is proceeding as planned with new safeguards in place to protect the players, coaches and fans.
This season, instead of utilizing young people and volunteers from the community to serve as buddies who assist the players as usual, the league has asked the players’ family members to help out. Only the players, coaches and family helpers are allowed on the field. The dugouts are cleaned and sanitized between games, and social distancing is being enforced. Despite the protective measures in place, the fun still remains and every player still has the opportunity to hit a homer and be a winner!
Good luck to all the players, coaches and family members, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, safe and fun season! For more information about the Miracle League, visit their website at https://miracleleaguepalmbeachcounty.com/ or Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MLPBC/.
