We hope you’re enjoying the winter so far! Here in South Florida, the weather has been just glorious. In fact, the excellent weather is probably the best reason for living here … you can literally vacation where you live. Sure, our summers are hot and humid but the rest of the year, the weather is mostly mild and warm. In fact, we have more than 200 sunny days each year, along with beautiful beaches, an abundance of cultural offerings, including art museums/art shows and galleries, top musical and Broadway-style performances, pro sports, wonderful restaurants, the best golf courses, boating and plenty of other outdoor activities and attractions you can do all year round.
The cost of living is still quite affordable compared to other states (about 1 point lower than the national average). And the lack of state taxes doesn’t hurt either… According to a recent report, about 1,000 people are moving to Florida each day (that’s more than 300,000 people per year!). Florida estimates we’ll soon have more than 22 million residents. If you are living up north and considering becoming a Snowbird (winter visitor to Florida) or perhaps moving here full time, be sure to give us a call to discuss your estate plan. You can find out a bit more about creating a will in Florida in our article below. If you are visiting the Boca Raton area and would like to schedule a meeting with one of our attorneys, you can request a consultation today.
Inside this issue, in addition to our story about knowing where your original will is, be sure to watch our video about how to distribute your tangible personal property (or tchotchkes). We also share a bit about our charitable giving program. For more information about anything in this issue, please contact us at 1-800-ELDERLAW or 561-750-3805 .
